We appreciate the help of volunteers in the following areas:

Volunteer Advocate

When you become a Volunteer Advocate at CCCNH, the impact on your life may be just as great as the impact you’ll have on survivors. Volunteer Advocates are integral to the work we do and play a critical role in supporting survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and human trafficking in Merrimack County.

Supervised by the Volunteer Coordinator, Volunteer Advocates are offered opportunities that range from remote phone assistance, in-person community support, and being present at CCCNH’s confidential shelter. Volunteer Advocates are not required to have any previous training in crisis work, only a strong desire to help those in need of services and passion for making a difference for survivors.

  • Must be 18 years or older and reside in the state of New Hampshire.
  • Must be able to pass NH Criminal Background Check and Sexual Offender Registry Check.
  • Must participate and successfully complete 30-hour preservice training (offered three times per year with a mixture of self-paced webinars and in-person/Zoom sessions.)
  • Must complete six (6) hours of continuing education annually.
  • Must have access to personal phone and/or laptop.
  • If providing in-person support, volunteer advocates must have access to individual transportation and live within 45 minutes of Merrimack County.
  • If providing in-person support, volunteer advocates must be available to shadow Staff Advocates for at least one (1) accompaniment of each kind/one (1) shelter shift.

Volunteer Advocate Opportunities

Hotline

Volunteer Advocates can work directly with survivors on our 24/7 hotline, to provide assistance to survivors and their loved ones over the phone. This is a unique remote opportunity that can be done from the comfort of whatever private space you have.

Shifts are available on an on-call basis.

  • Daytime shifts are available from 4pm-7pm.
  • Weeknight shifts (Sunday PM-Thursday PM) are available from 7pm-7am.
  • Weekend shifts (Friday PM-Monday AM) are 7am-7pm or 7pm-7am.

Accompaniment

Volunteer Advocates can support survivors in the community, accompanying them to Court hearings, child advocacy interviews, sexual assault examinations, to give police statements, and other community supports.

Accompaniments are on an as-needed basis.

  • Court accompaniments are Monday-Friday from 830a-430p and are usually requested no more than a week in advance.
  • Child Advocacy Center accompaniments are Monday-Friday from 830a-430p and are usually requested no more than a week in advance.
  • Hospital accompaniments are 24/7 and are immediately requested.

Shelter

Volunteer Advocates can be present in our confidential emergency shelter to provide in-person support to our shelter guests. This can include anything from providing emotional support and assisting with support groups to helping with shelter tasks, playing games/watching tv to keep them company, or providing a special workshop or class.

The shelter is staffed from 830a-430p Monday-Friday. Shifts will be scheduled within those hours or as the need evolves.

Volunteer Ambassador Opportunities

Outreach

Volunteers can help CCCNH build community awareness about violence and educate through prevention! Outreach is essential to the mission of CCCNH because it spreads the word that survivors and those who love them are not alone, it educates the community that domestic and sexual violence, stalking, and human trafficking are a community issue, and it builds a sense of CCCNH as a resource to the members of our community including law enforcement and other social services.

You will talk to those interested in learning more about our mission and getting involved with CCCNH. Opportunities include representing CCCNH at resource tables at pre-scheduled community events and fairs, distributing targeted outreach material in a variety of ways, gathering information for potential volunteers, donors, and other supporters, and more!

Skills & Experience Needed:

  • Open attitude.
  • Comfort speaking with community members about sensitive topics.
  • Passion about the issues of domestic and sexual violence.

Education

Volunteers support our Prevention Educator and Outreach Specialist within the community at middle schools, high schools, and higher education throughout Merrimack County. Prevention education plays a unique role in CCCNH’s mission—having an impact on the children, the parents, the teachers and the schools as a whole.

Skills & Experience Needed:

  • Experience working with teens and young adults.
  • Comfort with public speaking.
  • Teaching/child experience preferred.
  • Good sense of humor.
  • Passion about the issues of domestic and sexual abuse.

Fundraising

Volunteers are a vital part of the successful fundraising events that CCCNH hosts. Each year, CCCNH runs fundraising events that need a substantial number of committee participants and volunteers to run smoothly. This opportunity usually consists of monthly committee meetings, day-of-event volunteers, and occasional additional assistance as needed. Events include Walk a Mile in Their Shoes during Domestic Violence Awareness Month and the Resiliency Breakfast during Sexual Assault Awareness Month. This can also include fundraising appeals to current constituents with our twice-yearly mail stuffing event.

Skills & Experience Needed:

  • Experience working in a group setting.
  • Ability to maintain organization in a fast-paced setting.
  • Previous experience with nonprofits preferred.
  • Passion about the issues of domestic and sexual abuse.

Special Skills

Volunteers can bring their talents straight to our survivors and/or our staff. Are you an artist willing to give lessons to our staff? Are you a chef willing to make meals for our shelter guests? Do you have a unique talent that brings joy to your life that you’re eager to share with others? We would love to have you on board to enrich the lives of those involved with CCCNH.

Skills & Experience Needed:

  • Expertise in a skill.
  • Ability to work with small groups.
  • Passion about the issues of domestic and sexual abuse.

Office

CCCNH’s office is located at 27 Warren St in Concord, NH. The office consists of three floors of cubicles, office space, and meeting rooms, two bathrooms, and one kitchen area that need consistent cleaning and organizing. The outside consists of two outdoor spaces in need of landscaping and a driveway in need of snow plowing. There is also a need for outdoor maintenance for CCCNH’s confidential shelter. This opportunity is perfect for a more hands-on volunteer who may be interested in supporting CCCNH’s work indirectly.

Group Service

Group service opportunities are a great way to participate with your family, friends, church, colleagues, or clubs. These projects are designed for groups of various sizes and can include a multitude of tasks including donation organization and painting our shelter rooms.

Special Items Drive

Volunteer(s) interested in this project set up drives for specific items and/or a list of items that are needed for the survivors we serve. Examples include shelter welcome baskets, dignity packs for hospital SANE examinations, shelter upkeep supplies, and so many others. Contact the Volunteer Coordinator or Development Director prior to setting this up so they can ensure storage space as it is limited.

CCCNH Leadership Council

The CCCNH Leadership Council is committed to helping end intimate partner and gender-based violence by mobilizing members of their community to meaningfully contribute to the success of CCCNH. Membership in the Leadership Council is open to individuals who support and participate in CCCNH’s stated advocacy, fundraising, and volunteer activities.

Throughout the year, Leadership Council members are invited to elevate our efforts to end domestic and sexual violence by holding fundraisers, coordinating special volunteer activities, and hosting other relevant events.
